Monflanquin is in the Aquitaine Region of Southwestern France in the Department of Lot et Garonne. It is a 6-7 hour drive, 4 hour train or 1 hour flight from Paris. It is 45 minutes from the larger city of Agen and 20 minuts drive from the smaller city of Villeneuve sur Lot. Near Monflanquin you will find many small towns, villages and châteaux within a short drive. A car is recommended. From the United States, it is easiest to fly into a large European city like London or Paris and then take a commuter flight or train to either Toulouse, Bordeaux, Agen or Bergerac.

Monflanquin is located southeast of Bergerac in the rolling hills of Lot et Garonne. Monflanquin is also northEast of Villeneuve sur Lot. Daily Flights direct to Bergerac, take 1 hour 20 minutes from London Stanstead, Southampton, & Bristol, with Ryan Air & Flybe.com. Those taking the TGV Train from Paris can go to Agen, a 45 min. drive to Monflanquin.

Farmer's Markets and Shopping: There is a farmers' market every Thursday morning in the town square just steps from the house. There are other farmers' markets almost every day in one of the many neighboring villages. The town has a butcher shop, several bakeries, many small boutiques, a major grocery store and many different types of restaurants and cafes.

Vineyards: Monflanquin is situated in the heart of the Dordogne, Lot et Garonne region. Neighbouring vineyards include: Cahors, Bergerac, Saint Emillion, Bordeaux, Duras and many more. There is also a local winery in the village, "Cave des 7 Monts" with daily tours and wine tasting. Two local vineyards (20 min by car) with tours that we would recommend are Chateau de la Jaubertie and Chateau Ladesvignes

Chateaux: Within minutes of the house you will find the glorious Chateau de Biron, Chateau Gavaudan, and the Chateau de Bonaguil. Within a 20-30 minute drive further you will many more including: Chateau de Monbazillac, Chateau de Hautefort, Chateau de Beynac and Chateau de Duras to name a few.

Golf: There is fantastic golf available in the area. Villeneuve Sur Lot golf and country club offers an 18 hole golf course with visitor rates. Nearby Castelnaud also has a picturesque 18 hole golf course country club with daily rates on offer for visitors.

Outdoor activities: There are many hikes and bike rides in the area. Ten minutes by car there is an equestrian center with daily and hourly rates. Kayaks can be rented on many of the local rivers, a special treat is to kayak on the Dordogne River past many of the castles.

Caves: There are a great deal of caves in the Dordogne region - some interesting because of their prehistoric paintings, others because of their interesting rock formations. Some of those in the 'south of the Dordogne' region can be found by clicking here.

There is a library of books and brochures in the house at your disposal for activities to keep you busy while staying at the house. The local staff at any of the Cafes are very helpful with local details and most speak English.
